Invention of airplanes was a huge gift to mankind. These machines can get you to any corner of the world. But there are some things that the Airlines won't tell you. Read on to know some untold things about these beautiful machines!
1. Your electronic devices doesn’t interrupt radio signals
No evidence has been ever found regarding this thing. When the weather conditions are not good, precise radio signals are used to communicate to the ground and it was believed that mobile frequencies can interrupt these signals. Okay- with common sense, think about it. Can your mobile phone worth 50-60k bring a million dollar machine down? The main motive was to be safe. That’s it.
2. Minimum fuel isn’t minimum
All aircrafts carry enough fuel to make the trip properly. Okay, let me break it down for you. Aircrafts carry more fuel than just trip fuel. The first is trip fuel which is to make the trip. The second is contingency fuel, which is just spare fuel. The third is alternate fuel; in case of diversion. The fourth is reserve fuel which can cover half an hour of flight!
3. Oxygen masks are for a short time
Oxygen masks can only provide oxygen for around 12 minutes and the pilot has to bring down the place to a breathable altitude in that 12 minutes! Your mask is connected to a metal which burns and produces oxygen which you breathe, but it can burn for only 12 minutes.
4. The air your breathe comes from the engine
As the air is very thin at that altitude, you can’t breathe for a long time. So, after some improvements, the engineers thought that taking engine air will be a better idea as the engine compresses the air and hence, it’s dense!
5. Engine contains explosive charges
The engine of the aircraft comes with an explosive charge known as Squib. Basically, Squib Is used to stop engine fires as it breaks the airtight seal and the chemical is spilled all over to stop the flames.
