As the mercury dips, getting out of bed is a challenge, leave alone working out. To top it, sedentary lifestyle, over-eating and partying during holidays are going to add to your flab. Before you know, the mercury will rise and you will have to show your paunch to the world. Use these tips to fight lethargy and summer-ready your body, while there is time.
1) Go for a run
If you are not in the mood for heavy lifting or can’t be on time for a group work-out class, just bundle up and go for a jog or run. A long run will refresh your mind, invigorate your body and get your motor running for more action with your body.
2) Retail therapy
Nothing is a better motivator than guilt. Buying an expensive pair of shoes, clothes or work-out gear will make sure you are working out at least few times a week. Investing in a fitness tracker (like a Fitbit
product) will keep you excited enough to hit the gym, monitor your progress, apart from making heads turn.
3) Fitness resolution
When you make resolutions (usually around this time of the year), you tend to stick to them at least for a couple of months. Set a very simple, realistic fitness goal, such as ‘I will walk for half an hour, five days a week’
. Share your resolution with your mate, family and friends who can constantly monitor your progress.
4) Break the routine
Bros are always up for a new challenge in whatever they do. Breaking your work-out monotony to set a new benchmark will never fail to motivate. For instance, if you have been a stickler for the gym routine, winter is the time to sign up for a power or artistic yoga class and take on the challenge of stretching, balancing and breathing right.
5) Showing up
The greatest motivator will come from just showing up for work-out. Just drag yourself to the park, gym or class and when you see other men working out and looking awesome, you will automatically feel the adrenaline rush. Just spending half-an-hour doing cardio exercises is better than staying rolled up in your comforter, convinced of imaginary snowstorms outside.
